Next-generation clarifier for polypropylene.
Ciba Specialty Chemicals has introduced Irgaclear XT 386, a "next-generation" clarifier for polypropylene that provides excellent clarity at low concentrations. Derived from a new chemistry platform for clarifiers featuring high thermal stability and chemical integrity, XT 386 improves the organoleptic properties of polypropylene vs. conventional clarifiers, says Ciba. Thus it minimizes the risk of plate-out and blooming during processing and end-use of the clarified PP.Irgaclear XT 386 also tolerates higher compounding and processing temperatures than many other clarifiers, and maintains its effectiveness even when subjected to multiple processing cycles, as if often the case when regrind or recycled resin is used, says Ciba. Applications include thin-wall injection molding of transparent food containers, e.g., yogurt cups; injection molding of housewares such as food-storage containers; and extrusion and injection stretch blow molding of bottles.
