Nexgen serves up new power chip.

MILPITAS, Cal.--NexGen Inc., the Silicon Valley upstart chip maker, is making available high-performance PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) Bus chip sets and motherboards that support its Nx586 processor family of fifth-generation x86 processors.

The Nx586 processor is the only fifth-generation alternative to the Pentium processor currently in production.

"The Nx586 processor/PCI motherboard solution is an excellent match to the new Windows 95 operating system," said Dana Krelle, NexGen's vice president of sales and marketing. The Nx586 processor, optimized for 32-bit processing, is said to be ideal for 32-bit operating systems.
