I spent two years in Canada as I was working on my advanced degree, so I know Canada well. I often thought that there was a "path of least resistance" syndrome in politics, and often in the Church. There were also other things that I saw I was delighted with. But in general, my conclusion was, here are white Anglo-Protestants on the frontier.

The Catholic Church, although it moves slowly, moves always in the right direction prompted by the Holy Spirit. I do believe it is a time of action, and that "nice" does not cut it when we come to ethical and moral issues. Just as in every family, there are rules for the protection and, prompted by love, for the well-being of the children, thus is Holy Mother Church in a Gatholic's life. Yes, I realize there are mistakes, problems, anger over issues, but when She speaks on faith and morals, there is holy wisdom.

I feel for your battle in Canada, for I know its generous heart, but I also know that we battle something very adverse to our eternal health, in modern and contemporary society. The United States is far less honest than Canada, and more manipulative behind the scenes reducing us all to commodities and not human beings, but that is another story. In the end, and I believe this with all my heart, it is about love, which is Jesus Christ, who gave us the sacraments that keep us renewed in that love. The gates of hell will not prevail; Jesus told us that goodness and love will triumph.

These are powerful and strange times, for the hurt and suffering of many people today is spiritual. God shall send us help. He will save us for we are all his children. The Catholic Church is a light in the dark, or why else would she be so challenged and battered.

Keep up the good work, and God bless you
