News from Monterey's aquarium.

Since we reported the opening of the stunning new Monterey Bay Aquarium last November (page 92), heavy attendance has caused crowding and traffic jams. Some new measures should help.

Weekend and holiday visitors must now buy tickets for a specific entry date and time from Ticketron (service charge $1 per ticket). If you order by telephone (10 percent surcharge), you need to call at least seven days ahead. Weekday visitors can buy tickets in advance or at the door.

A free shuttle bus picks up passengers at the Custom House parking garages ($3 per day), at Tyler STreet and Del Monte Avenue; it stops at Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, and the aquarium.

The aquarium, at 886 Cannery Row, is open 10 to 6 daily; admission is $7, $5 for ages 12 to 18 and seniors, $3 ages 3 to 12.
