Barbara R. Pankau of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa received the 11th Annual Florida Medical Business Healthcare Award for "Best Healthcare Attorney" in the Tampa Bay area.

Tamela Eady Wiseman of Deboest, Knudsen, Stockman, Wiseman, Decker & Dryden, P.A., in Naples has been elected to the Naples City Council for a four-year term. She also has been appointed as the city's representative to the Florida League of Cities.

Jennifer Eising of Clifford Chance LLP in London has been admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales.

Cathryn A. Mitchell of Miller & Mitchell in Princeton, N.J., spoke on the Federal Anticybers quatting Act and the effect of the new "domain name" legislation on trademark law on The Bloomberg Forum.

Thomas A. Culmo of Miami has been elected to the Miami chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He also has been elected secretary of the Dade County Trial Lawyers Association.

Beth Houghton of Houghton Capital Partners in St. Petersburg has been re-elected to the Carondelet Health System Finance Committee.

Ira Leesfield of Leesfield, Leighton, Rubio & Mahfood, P.A., in Miami was honored for his pledge in memory of Florence Griffith Joyner to the Miami Heat Charitable Foundation in conjunction with the celebration of the National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

Robert A Williams of Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal & Banker, P.A., has been elected to the board of directors of the Pasco Builders Association.

Leslie K. O'Neal, Rory C. Ryan and Gregory J. Johansen of Holland & Knight in Orlando have published "Sick Building Claims" in the January 2000 issue of The Construction Lawyer.

George Edson Spofford IV of Glenn, Rasmussen, Fogarty & Hooker, P.A., in Tampa has been appointed general counsel of the Underground Utility Contractors of Florida, Inc.

Xavier Cortada of Miami participated in the Jubilee Day for Artists at the Vatican. He met with the Pope and addressed the people gathered at St. Peter's Basilica from the Bernini papal alter. In Washington, D.C., Cortada received the "Millennium International Volunteer Award" from the U.S. Department of State and USA Today recognizing his collaborative art projects on four continents during the past decade. He also was honored with the "Florida International Volunteer Corps 1999 Outstanding Achievement Award" given by the Florida Association of Volunter Agencies for Caribbean Action.

Ivan A. Colao and Robert G. Shaffer II, both of Akerman Senterfitt & Eidson in Jacksonville, presented "Mergers and Acquisitions: An Overview of the Process of Buying, Selling or Merging Your Company" to the Jacksonville chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.

David Rogero of Akerman Senterfitt & Eidson in Miami has been elected chair of the State Service Council of the American Red Cross.

Jerald D. August of August & Kulunas, PA., in West Palm Beach served as chair of the seminar, "Transfers of Closely Held Business Interests Incident to Divorce" at the ABA Midyear Conference. He presented "Estate Planning for Owners of Pass-Through Entities" and "Maximizing the Benefits of LLC's, LLP's, S Corporations and other Pass-Through Entities" at the National CLE Conference.

Thomas O. Katz of Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster & Russell, P.A., in Ft. Lauderdale has been elected treasurer of The Donors Forum, a regional association of foundations and corporate giving programs in South Florida.

Nathaniel L. Doliner Fields, Ward, Emmanuel, Smith & Cutler, P.A., in Tampa has been elected board chair of the Museum of Science and Industry.

Frederick L. Bateman, Jr., and Charles J. Schreiber, Jr., of Foley & Lardner in Tallahassee have been recognized by United Way. Bateman leads the firm's United Way local campaign and Schreiber serves as president-elect of Second Harvest Food Bank.
