News US rock star Ryan cancels Brum show in sex scandal; SINGER ACCUSED OF MESSAGING TEENAGE GIRL.

AMERICAN rock star Ryan Adams has cancelled his Birmingham show amid sex scandal allegations.

The 44-year-old star had been due to appear at the 02 Academy on April 6, but has now scrapped his entire UK tour.

It comes as the award-winning singer-songwriter faces allegations of sexual misconduct.

Two weeks ago, the New York Times reported claims that Adams had exchanged sexually inappropriate messages with a teenage girl.

The singer's lawyer says he "unequivocally denies" engaging in inappropriate communication with someone he knew was underage.

Meanwhile, the FBI has says it will investigate the texts to determine whether Adams was aware of her age.

The New York Times story also contained interviews with several women who claimed Adams had offered them help with their careers as a pretext for sex.

And there have been allegations of psychological abuse from the musician's former wife, Mandy Moore.

Adams has issued a statement calling the article "unsettlingly inaccurate," and apologising to anyone he had hurt, "however unintentionally". But ticket agencies had already received calls from fans wanting refunds for the sell-out UK shows.

Yesterday, it was confirmed that all the UK and Ireland gigs had been cancelled. Adams was also due at London's Royal Albert Hall, the O2 Apollo Manchester and the O2 Academy Newcastle.

A post from the Royal Albert Hall's official Twitter page said: "The Ryan Adams UK & Ireland tour has been cancelled.

"Full refunds to ticket purchasers from authorised outlets will be processed by end of day on Monday. Please allow time for the repayment transaction to hit your account."

Promoters say the musician's US tour is still going ahead despite the claims made in the New York Times.

Adams says: "The picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period."

An early show by Adams at Birmingham's now defunct Ronnie Scott's club as part of the city's Songwriters Festival, is credited with launching him in the UK.
