Newly formed Vendome Group buys Brownstone Publishers' real estate publications.

New York City-based Brownstone Publishers Inc. Dates back to the 1979 launch of New York Apartment Law and for years was associated solely with newsletters and other publications devoted to real estate law and management. In the 1990s, however, Brownstone began branching out into health care management and education management, currently counting about 30 publications targeted to a variety of health care providers and educational administrators.

Now Brownstone has sold its real estate titles to the Vendome Group, a recently formed company headed by Jane Butler, former president and CEO of Aspen Publishers, and Dean Vogel, former president and CEO of Ovid Technologies. Vendome has the backing of Providence Equity Partners.

Neither Vendome nor Brownstone, who will share offices during the transition, returned phone calls and e-mails seeking further information about the acquisition.

Eugene Simonoff & Associates Inc., New York, represented the Vendome Group in the transaction, the terms of which were not disclosed.
