Newcastle flights really taking off.

Jetset Geordies are snapping up all the latest flights available from Newcastle Airport in a bid to get some fun in the sun.

Holidaymakers have sparked a major upsurge in trips from the city's airport, according to travel agents Going Places.

The firm says people from the region are insisting on taking off from closer to home.

Ian Dobison, regional manager of Going Places, said: "Holiday operators are making more seats available every year from Newcastle.

"We're finding people aren't prepared to get in their cars and make the long journeys to airports in other regions.

The company says Palma in Majorca is currently proving to be a popular choice and many other destinations are quickly selling out.
