Newbury: Green top of Triumph lists after ideal start.

Byline: Jon Lees

GREEN IDEAL became the new favourite for the Triumph Hurdle after outbattling a Francois Doumen newcomer to win on his jumping debut, writes Jon Lees.

He was cut to 20-1 from 33-1 by William Hill and received a 25-1 quote from Victor Chandler following his defeat of Kelami- running in the colours of the Queen Mother- in the juvenile novice hurdle.

Green Ideal raced twice on the Flat, winning first time out for owner Khalid Abdullah, before being sent to the sales, where he fetched 58,000gns to join Nicky Henderson.

Henderson said: "He is gorgeous and, having had only two runs on the Flat, we wouldn't know how good he could be. He'll be entered in the Triumph and we will see how things go."

Doumen was equally delighted with Kelami, a 33-1 chance with Hills for the Triumph, who, as a non-thoroughbred Selle Francais, lacked the maturity of the winner, according to his trainer.

He said: "His breed take a bit longer to mature. It was like a two-year- old taking on a three-year-old, so he needs more time. He will have a nice break and you will see him again in February."
