New universal gateway available from Lucent Technologies.
The US telecomms equipment maker Lucent Technologies has unveiled a universal gateway which, Lucent claims, offers the industry's highest density solution in a seven-foot rack for the delivery of converged voice and data services.
The APX 1000 system, which is designed to complement Lucent's higher-end APX 8000 universal gateway solution, enables carriers to use up to 672 T-1 or 720 E-1 ports for either voice, fax, data or virtual private network (VPN) services per chassis or 10,080 T-1/10,000 universal ports per seven-foot rack.
Other features include a multiprocessor architecture that allows between 8,000-14,000 calls to be processed simultaneously, fully redundant power supplies and fans and support for next-generation services such as VoIP, fax over IP, ICD with SS7 call control, web-to-phone and wireless 3G services.
The APX 1000 is available immediately worldwide. Entry-level pricing begins at USD26,000.
