New tributes to shot dad.

THE boss of a Birmingham-based halal meat business has paid tribute to an award-winning staff member who was murdered in Pakistan as he tried to protect his family.

Azhar Iqbal, 39, from Stechford, was shot in the stomach as he wrestled with two masked robbers in front of his wife Rubana Mukhtar and stepdaughter Maha Munir as they returned from a shopping trip in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

The gunmen confronted the family on the street demanding their valuables.

But after Azhar handed over a mobile phone, he tried to fight the thieves off and was shot in the stomach.

Azhar had been the manager of the halal concession at Asda's Perry Barr store, which also says it is devastated by the tragic news.

Noor Ali, buyer ethnic non-food, frozen foods & ethnic concessions with Asda, said: "We're devastated by the news. He was an extremely competent manager and got on very well with everyone.

"It's a big loss. Our thoughts are with his family and we'll be supporting the family and the company."
