According to new research from the UK Government's Office for National Statistics 2.2m or 7% of the UK workforce now work from home.

The research also found that out of the total number of home workers, 1.8m rely on computers and phones so much that they could not do their job without them. Out of all those using a computer or phone to work from home 43% were self employed while 67% were male. In the workforce as a whole 11% are self employed and 53% are men.

The Office for National Statistics identifies a home worker as someone who works at least one day per week from home.
