New spin on songs of Bowie and Brel.

DESCRIBED as a cross between Sally Bowles, Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, Camille O'Sullivan will bring a touch of drama to Birmingham Town Hall tonight with her La Fille du Cirque show.

Following sold out seasons in New York, Sydney Opera House and London, the multi-award-winning chanteuse will perform the work of Nick Cave, Jacques Brel, David Bowie and Tom Waits, transforming each song into a grippingly theatrical experience.

Born in London to a French mother and Irish father, Camille grew up in Cork surrounded by the music of the French torch singers - a soundtrack which was her inspiration to become one of Ireland's most intriguing artists.

Having studied fine art painting, she went on to do a degree in architecture and won the Architectural Association of Ireland Award in 2000.

Whilst working in Berlin she visited the city's cabaret clubs and was drawn to the work of Ute Lemper and Kurt Weill and music as a full-time career.

In the last six years Camille has built an international reputation with shows such as The Carney Dream, La Fille du Cirque and Brel, describing her performances as "in your face cabaret.

Songs in which nothing is quite as it seems".

As much storyteller as singer, Camille has appeared in the films Over the Edge, November Afternoon and the Oscar-nominated Mrs Henderson Presents and has acted in the plays One Night Stand and Tonight Lola Blau.

La Fille du Cirque was one of the top selling shows of the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, garnering a host of rave reviews.
