New scheme for doormen.

VIOLENT and criminal bouncers face being thrown out of the security business with the launch of a national licensing scheme today.

The licence is issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Door supervisors will have to undergo an identity and criminal background check and reach set levels of training.

Anyone who has had a serious criminal conviction in the past five years would be refused a licence while it will be a criminal offence to work as a door supervisor without one.

The scheme will be phased in before 2005.
