A quick reference guide based on a previously published, peer reviewed Guideline for the Management of Acute and Chronic Pain in Sickle Cell Disease has been developed by the American Pain Society for emergency room clinicians. Telehealth Core Course

Recognizing that frontline nurses need a high level of knowledge and training, the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing now offers the Telehealth Nursing Practice Core Course, available online and on CD-ROM. Completion of the course provides over 16 hours of continuing education credit. Nurse Practitioner Competencies

The federal Division of Nursing has published a new set of primary care competencies for entry-level nurse practitioners in five practice areas: adult, family, gerontological, pediatric, and women's health. Patients with Breast Cancer

Caring for the Patient with Breast Cancer is a new program produced by the Oncology Nursing Society and the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Designed to keep nurses apprised of the latest techniques and best practices, this comprehensive educational package consists of a video, a lesson guide, a facilitator's guide, and announcement posters. Success Through Action

Many human health problems are linked to environmental pollution. A new publication, developed jointly by the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation and the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry, includes examples of federal initiatives and effective projects by nurses in the areas of education, practice, and research. Palliative Care

A new monograph, Advanced Practice Nursing: Pioneering Practices in Palliative Care, and a position statement issued by American nursing leaders, has been published by Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care, a national program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Practical Ethics Center of the University of Montana, Missoula, which provides technical assistance to the program, will provide copies as supplies permit and assist in posting materials in electronic format on organization websites.
