Opening Night followed a new format in Charlotte-the reception was combined with the USITT Address, presented by Dr. Robert R. Scales. USITT thanks AV Pro, Inc., Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), SECOA, Texas Scenic Company, and Wenger for their generous sponsorship of Opening Night 2011.

At the NASCAR-themed New Products Showcase on Thursday night, Travis DeCastro stepped into the MC role following Dick Durst's retirement. Assisted by Mo Stroemel, Travis entertained the large crowd as a wide variety of exhibitor swag was auctioned off, including several pairs of tickets to Disneyland and Disney World. Over $4,700 was raised for the endowment fund, and several exhibitors spotlighted their new products in a variety of creative ways.

The 2011 USITT Light Lab would not have been possible without the generous donations of equipment by A.C. Lighting, A.C.T Lighting, Altaian Lighting, Apollo Design Technology, ETC, Philips Entertainment, Rosco, James Thomas Engineering, and West Virginia University.

Beyond exhibiting at Stage Expo, many companies, schools, and organizations sponsor conference events, host rereceptions, conduct dealer training sessions, participate in work groups which develop industry standards, and sponsor or present sessions. Finding Your Way Through Wonderland, presented by Apollo Design I Technology; Automation at Cirque Du Soleil and Wardrobe at Cirque Du Soleil; How to use your Batten, presented by JR Clancy; Why You Should Never Use a Line Array (or Why You Should), led by d&b audio; Disney Entertainment: On Land, Sea, and Air, and Making It Our Own, presented by Disney Parks Creative Entertainment; Alternative Careers in the Entertainment Industry, presented by IATSE; Military Post Theatres in Today's Society, led by InterAmerica Stage; Ethernet, Audio, and the Theatre, presented by Meyer Sound; Graceful Bodices: The Pattern After Draping, presented by Period Corsets; Wireless Dimming in Theory and Practice, led by RC4 Wireless; A New Languagefor Color in Stage Lighting, and How to Specify a Dance Floor so That Everyone Gets What They Expect, presented by Rosco; Digitally Printed Scenery Solutions, led by Rose Brand; Stump the Rigger, led by Sapsis Rigging; and Introduction to Media Servers, presented by TMB.

Thanks to ETC and Tools For Stagecraft, who sponsored the 2011 Tech Olympics individual event awards. Tech Olympics awards were announced and presented at the USITT Booth & Boutique at Stage Expo on Saturday morning.
