New processors ship from AMD.
Integrated circuit developer AMD has launched two new AMD Opteron processors designed for server and workstation chips.
The AMD Opteron processor Models 846 and 146 are each designed to enable companies to switch to 64-bit computing as they are capable of both 32-bit and 64-bit computing.
Model 846 is intended for use in four to eight way servers running large databases, business processes and decision support operations. The AMD Opteron processor Model 146 provides memory and scalable input-output support together with improved performance for workstations.
Pricing starts at USD3,199 for Model 846 and USD669 for the 146 version. All prices are for the processors in 1,000-unit quantities.
