A LEISURE centre has had a change of management after a year of uncertainty.

The Brentwood Centre closed at the end of last October after its operator - the Brentwood Leisure Trust - ceased trading, threatening almost 140 jobs.

The Trust had suffered from the financial impact of the Covid pandemic. Almost a year later, Brentwood Borough Council (BBC) announced on Thursday (September 30) that it has appointed new management for the centre.

From Friday (October 1), Everyone Active will manage The Brentwood Centre after supporting the council with improvements to the facility.

Cllr Cliff Poppy, chairman of the borough council's community and health committee, said: "I am delighted that Everyone Active will be taking over the smooth running of the Brentwood Centre.

"The company has an excellent reputation and considerable expertise around the country for creating exciting and enticing leisure centres.

"The Brentwood Centre is vital to the wellbeing and health of the borough and I would like to thank all the residents and members for their continued support."

After the announcement of the new management, Cllr Poppy said: "It has been a considerable period of transition with Brentwood Borough Council taking the reigns in 2020 and all the staff involved in that handover worked incredibly hard facing the challenges of lockdown restrictions on top of everything else to get the Brentwood Centre to re-open and looking better than ever.
