New lobbies as chilled sales grow. (News).

Londis is spending 1m [pounds sterling] on building chilled lobbies at its three distribution centres in Thamesmead, Andover and South Elmsall, West Yorkshire.

The lobbies will enable vehicles to dock in the chilled area to ensure a constant chilled temperature throughout the supply chain.

Work will start in September and the lobbies should be completed at the end of the year.

The investment forms part of the group's commitment to its chilled business, which grew by 13% last year.

Last year Londis invested 1m [pounds sterling] in new chill stores at Thamesmead and Andover and recently issued planograms to improve chilled displays instore. Londis has also reorganised its chilled supply chain to increase efficiency and control of its in-bound logistics.

Half its chilled suppliers, representing 36% of volume, will now deliver to a central point in the east Midlands from where a third-party logistics provider will deliver direct to the RDCs.
