New labelling system for soft drinks company.

Villa Soft Drinks of Sunderland not only improved their production efficiency when they installed a Midas label applicator but they were also able to offer customers a new labelling service as well.

This long established company produces a complete range of carbonated soft drinks marketed under their own brand name, and they also provide a contract bottling service for own label lines.

Before purchasing the Midas unit from Norprint International Ltd to label shrinkwrapped packs of filled PET bottles, Villa had to apply preprinted barcode labels to the outers by hand. The packs involved vary in size from those containing 12 by 330ml bottles up to those with 6 by 2 litre bottles in a pack.

The first Midas unit purchased was set to automatically apply these labels to the tops of the packs in-line. Initially, the bar-code labels were added in response to demand from a small number of customers. However, by automating their labelling system, Villa are now able to use the new capability as a marketing tool, not only to apply bar-code information but also promotional messages too.

A second Midas unit has now been added to the line. This one is used to label the sides of the bottle packs - an additional option for their customers.

Readers will remember that the Midas label printer/applicators have been developed along modular lines to enable companies to choose the features that particularly suit their needs. It also means the system can be altered as needs change.
