New industrial estates in Khyber.

Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and National Industrial Park (NIP) will soon begin establishing new industrial estates and upgrading of existing ones to develop the industrial sector in the province.

The two bodies realize that industrial and economic growth in Khyber had declined due to prolonged presence of millions of Afghan refugees in the region. According to well placed insiders, NIP would establish industrial estates like Korangi, Bin Qasim and Rachana Industrial Parks at Karachi and Lahore.

SCCI wants industry to be given electricity on discounted rates. It is working on investment opportunities in hydro power, agriculture, tourism and other potential sectors. Renowned industrialists stress the need for upgrading facilities at existing industrial estates in the province. They believe it is need of the hour to establish new industrial estates and give new life to old ones. This would also need setting up separate grid stations at all industrial estates for providing uninterrupted power supply to industry in the province.
