New facility helps prepare inmates for release.

First in the CIS center for preparation of convicts for release opened in Jalal-Abad in the prison #10. Opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the State Prison Service of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Japarov.

800,000 soms were spent on creation of the center, which will provide art therapy programs and modern craft shops.

"Art therapy will help bring mental harmony and serve as a tool of self-expression and self-knowledge," the statement said.

A law on probation comes into force from January 1, 2019 and this center was opened to prepare inmates for the release, help them not to get lost in the society after the release, and make sure they won't end up in prisons again.

He noted that this is the first of a kind center in CIS.

"The center will provide 6 various services like art therapy to cope with aggression, personality recovery, drawing sessions with professional artists, etc. Social workers and psychologists will work with inmates 6 months before their release," Japarov explained.
