New exercises 'cut rugby injuries' NEWS IN BRIEF.

A 20.MINUTE exercise programme could dramatically reduce injuries in rugby, a study has found.

The programme, called Activate, is the result of a collaborative project between health researchers at the University of Bath and England Rugby.

Results from a study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found it reduced rates both for concussion and lower limb injuries.

Researchers followed the progress of 81 men's community rugby club teams and almost 2,000 players over one season.

Concussion injuries reduced by up to 60% while lower limb injuries reduced by up to 40% in players using Activate.

Dr Simon Roberts, from the University of Bath's Department for Health, said: "This new programme is markedly different from the kind of warm-up players might typically take part in during training or pre-match."

The Activate warm-up focuses on balance, strength and agility to better prepare players for the physical challenges they face.
