Statistics Norway, the Norwegian state statistics agency, said on Thursday (14 July) that a total of 2,529 new dwellings were started in May 2005, up 15.6% from May 2004.

Almost 20% more dwelling starts were registered in January-May 2005 as compared with the same period last year.

Some 1,493,200 square metres of utility floor space were started for dwelling purposes in January-May 2005, an increase of 19.7% from January-May 2004.
