New deal.

Manchester United was set to exercise its one-way option and extend Dimitar Berbatov's contract by one year, preventing the Bulgarian striker from leaving on a free transfer in the summer, reports in the UK claimed on February 29.

The confirmation came from United manager Alex Ferguson, who said that the clause would come into effect in March.

Berbatov has been relegated to substitute duty this season, but still has scored nine goals during the campaign, including seven in the league. He is thought to be on a 90 000 pounds sterling a week deal and the contract extension is not expected to increase his salary.
