New competition, or an alternative source?

New Competition, or an Alternative Source?

Rumors in the trade press suggest that the Fox Broadcasting network will begin a 30 minute national news show possibly as early as January with local affiliates also producing 30 minute news segments by the beginning of next year.

There may be a mass purchase of video equipment for affiliates around the country whose news segments would air immediately following the national news reports.

Both news shows would appear in prime time hours instead of normal 5:00 to 6:00 news spots, and the format of the shows would most likely be alternative reports rather than straight news.
