New chamber of commerce president.

Kirby Williston is the new president of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.

A native of New Brunswick, Williston arrived in Timmins five years ago and has since been employed as a controller at the Kidd Creek mine.

Before coming to Timmins, Williston worked for Noranda Inc. at the Heath Stell and Brunswick mines in New Brunswick.

Williston says he is honoured to be the chamber's new president and excited at the opportunity the position brings with it. Coming from more of a community background, Williston is hoping to provide a universal voice to future chamber proceedings.

"I see the organization as being both the voice of business and also as an institute that works for the betterment of the community as a whole," he says.

"We want to become more of a community partner," he says of the chamber's new mandate.

"Part of that lies in establishing a more focused and organization-wide message at the chamber and then improving on our ability to spread that message to the community at large."
