New Zealand Cricket planning to restructure domestic cricket.

Wellington, Feb 19( ANI ): New Zealand Cricket is planning to restructure domestic cricket structure and consulted former head of strategy for the New Zealand Racing Board to prepare a feasibility study in this regard.

Australian Anthony Crummy, who worked for Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd during last year's Rugby World Cup, is expected to present his findings to the board within three months.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC), which currently provides 10 million dollar annually to the domestic game, will likely create a separate entity to oversee its domestic competitions.

It is also possible that major associations may divide into two separate organisations - one to run their professional team and one to take care of their amateur programmes. An ownership stake in the professional teams may also be offered to private investors.

The proposed changes would be carried out to ensure the domestic game becomes sustainable.

New Zealand Cricket boss David White said it was still too early to identify what changes would be made but he admitted that the current model needed to change.

"My vision for domestic cricket in New Zealand is for us to have outstanding, robust and even competitions, played on outstanding facilities that produce outstanding international cricketers and ensure we also have depth," quoted White, as saying.

"Maybe we haven't got the model quite right, where they are almost totally dependent on New Zealand Cricket. That's a challenge for them. We need to ensure that they have rights and properties, so they are robust organisations in their own right, are employing quality people and driving their own income. That would be the ideal situation," he added.

White said Crummy would be working closely with the major associations and the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association. ( ANI )
