New TPE series to debut at Fakuma 2015.

Four new families of TPEs will be highlighted by two exhibitors at next month's Fakuma 2015 show in Friedrichshafen, Germany. First, KraiburgTPE (U.S. office in Duluth, Ga.) will introduce a new series said to be especially cost-effective for consumer applications; these grades boast improved adhesion to engineering thermoplastics such as PC and ABS at an attractive price. New food-compliant TPEs for "slit valves" will also debut from Kraiburg. They are designed for two-component injection molding and are said to provide excellent resilience and reliable adhesion to hard components. And for demanding automotive underhood seals, Kraiburg will highlight new Thermolast V grades with high-heat resistance, improved compression set, and good adhesion to nylons.

Meanwhile, new styrenic block copolymers from Teknor Apex Co., Pawtucket, R.I., exhibit performance comparable to that of TPVs widely used in window gaskets while offering an alternative that does not require predrying and resists staining from paints, unlike most TPVs. The Monprene IN-23000 Series is readily available in small lots and precolored grades. They reportedly can be processed with the same tooling used for PVC profiles at similar throughput rates and die pressures. In coextruded structures, the new compounds exhibit excellent adhesion to PP or high-modulus TPE substrates.
