New South Hills Mall unveiled.

After two years, The New South Hills Mall is emerging from its cocoon of construction walls, renovated and transformed into one of the busiest shopping centers in the Poughkeepsie area.

What was formerly a "tired" mall facing increasing vacancies is now a vibrant 660,000-square-foot mecca for some of today's most dynamic retailers. Currently, it is over 90 percent occupied and the remaining space is virtually spoken for.

South Hills Mall is proof that today's shoppers are focusing on stores that offer brand name merchandise at everyday reduced prices.

As the fifth of six new "power" anchors opened in mid-November in the phased project, shopper counts show a three-fold increase over last year and there are few available parking spaces in the once ample, 4,000-car lot on Saturdays.

In 1989, Sarakreek opened its New York office to take over direct management of its properties.
