New Media Law Committee Discusses Journalist Rights and Duties.

The new media law committee resumed on Thursday its discussions on the rights and duties of journalists based on the journalist's right and absolute freedom to pursue information anywhere, while shouldering the responsibility of publication according to law.

Suggestions were submitted concerning the journalist's rights including their right to not disclose the information sources, attending conferences ad meetings and pursing information from the source.

A suggestion regarding the safety of journalists and not firing them from work because of their views and information was also submitted.

For his Part, Committee Head Taleb Qadi Amin stressed the committee has agreed on a basic principle which is guaranteeing the right of journalists to practice their work and pursue and publish information; at the same time, journalists should be responsible for everything they publish.

In turn, member of the committee Dr.

Yahya al-Aridi said the basic principle for journalists is practicing their work freely and responsibly.
