New Journals from Elsevier & Elsevier Science.
Elsevier Science (Philadelphia, PA) will begin the publication of Ecological Complexity, a new quarterly journal, with an issue in February 2004 while parent Elsevier (Amsterdam) will launch Physics of Life Review, also to be produced quarterly, with an issue in January.Ecological Complexity is being targeted to ecologists, biophysicists, biologists, systems scientists and resource managers. Its mission is to publish articles on all aspects of bio-complexity in the environment, theoretical ecology and topics of current interest. Editorial will cover such topics as ecosystems and biospheres, ecological pattern formation, topology and networks, the dynamics of human/ environment interactions, policy development, and new tools and technologies for studying ecosystems. An annual subscription costs $72 for individuals and $380 for institutions.
Elsevier said that Physics of Life Reviews is "dedicated to the increasing amount of research in the field of biophysics" whose editorial will address "all living systems," from molecules to populations and from genetics to artificial systems. Editorial will cover a wide range of topics related to the organization of complex living systems, Elsevier said, with research on "constructive explorations and modeling of biological phenomena" through the application of the foundations of physics. The journal will target physicists, chemists, mathematicians, biologists, computer scientists and engineers. An annual subscription has not yet been announced.
