Crime writer Ian Rankin has disclosed that his latest Rebus detective novel will be published by the Orion Publishing Group in autumn 2018, book trade news company The Bookseller revealed on Friday.

According to The Bookseller, Rankin's new book is part of a new signed deal, which also includes a second book under contract. The novel will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook in 2018, with a paperback to follow in 2019. However, details about the forthcoming book's title or plot have yet to be revealed.

The new book was announced by Rankin live on-stage at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on the evening of 25 August.

Celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of Rankin's first Rebus title were held last month in Edinburgh at RebusFest.

Rankin was quoted as saying: "After 30 years and 21 novels, John Rebus seems to have more fans than ever - and luckily for me there's still plenty of life (and fight) in the old dog."
