New E-governance award announced.

The Information Technology Authority (ITA) announced the establishment of a new award in egovernance, approved by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, as an effort to encourage the development of digital services in the government and improve the knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT) among the general public.

The new award was unveiled at a press conference held in the Ministry of National Economy under the auspices of H E Mohammed Nasser al Khusaibi, Secretary General of the Ministry of National Economy and Chairman of the ITA board of directors; H E Sheikh al Fahdel Mohammed al Harthy, Undersecretary for Development Affairs at Ministry of National Economy and Deputy Chairman of the ITA board of directors; and Dr Salim al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA.

Addressing the media, H E Khusaibi said, AoThis award is a source of pride for all of us and it is with great pleasure and gratitude that we have received His MajestyAAEs approval for the allocation of a proficiency award in the area of egovernment services. It is expected to be an important incentive in the development and growth in the application of digital technologies in egovernment services and aims at transforming the sultanate into a knowledge community based on modern communication.Ao

The award is recognition for innovative and creative digital services, products and solutions to enhance eculture of Oman. The registration period for the award will be from July to September, and the award ceremony in December 2010.
