Breakthrough Graphical Suite Unveiled at the CUE Conference

New Deal, Inc. announced today at the Computer Using Educators (CUE) conference, New Deal SchoolSuite 98, a graphical educational suite for PCs with as little as a 286 processor, 640K RAM and 9Mb hard drive space. New Deal SchoolSuite 98 delivers all the integrated applications educators need to teach computer literacy and Internet use in one easy to use, point and click package: a word processor, spreadsheet, database, graphics application, Internet browser, banner-maker, clip-art and educational templates.

"There are 51 million K-12 students in the U.S. today, yet after 15 years of personal computer use, there are only 6.5 million PCs in schools. There are 14 million children in households below the national poverty level. The only realistic way to ensure computer literacy and Internet access for all in the near term, is to use the millions of older PCs being discarded by corporations and government every year. You don't need a multi-media 586 PC to teach desktop publishing, spreadsheets, or Internet browsing. New Deal SchoolSuite 98 provides all of that, and more, on the entire range of school PCs," said Clive Smith, CEO of New Deal. "There are over 30 million working 286 and 386 PCs in the U.S. that could be donated to schools and educational non-profits."

Stephen D. Johnson, MIS Director, Wheaton Academy, Chicago, IL said "What schools need is what New Deal SchoolSuite 98 offers - a complete classroom solution including an Internet browser, that runs on all PCs. As a typical school MIS director, dealing with a mix of 286 and newer PCs, New Deal School Suite 98 is the only graphical solution that I can run on all my computers, networked or standalone. The ability of students to select between beginner and expert levels in applications is also very important in the school environment. SchoolSuite 98 applications are very powerful, yet easy to use, and you can drag and drop between even the Internet browser and the rest of the suite."

New Deal SchoolSuite 98 applications provide selectable feature sets for users with different skill levels. Level 1 is suitable for Grades K-3, or for computer novices. Introductory skills and formatting are learned at this level. At Level 2, suitable for grades 4-6, menu options are increased to build upon the skills learned at Level 1. Level 3, suitable for grades 7-9 or intermediate users, supplies the cascading menu options of full-featured productivity applications. Level 4, for grades 10-12 or experienced users, provides advanced graphics and layout capabilities.

About New Deal

New Deal, Inc, was founded to provide state of the art graphical productivity and Internet solutions for the massive numbers of older and entry level computers worldwide. These computers are fully functional, yet are unable to meet the excessive processor, storage and memory requirements of the latest software used in major corporations. New Deal is initially focused on the educational, religious, non-profit and home office markets in North America and Western Europe, where it believes that recycling hardware through smarter software can have the greatest immediate impact. The company will also rapidly localize its software for developing countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
