South Australia's new ANF branch secretary Elizabeth Dabars holds a strong passion to promote and advance the professional and industrial interests of nurses, midwives and personal care attendants.

Ms Dabars was appointed by the ANF Federal Executive Council as branch secretary of the ANF in South Australia after Lee Thomas resigned from the position earlier this year to join the federal office as assistant national secretary.

"The SA Branch has achieved significant gains in regards to representing and advancing the industrial and professional interests of our members," Ms Dabars said. "I hope my appointment provides a positive opportunity for renewal and further development."

Prior to working for the ANF, Ms Dabars worked as a personal care assistant during her " undergraduate years. On graduation, she practised as a registered nurse in the aged care sector and country hospitals. Concerned with a range of professional and workplace matters, Ms Dabars was determined to address these issues by completing degrees in law and education with the intention of working for and with the profession.

As an ANF worksite representative, organiser, industrial officer and since graduating from law, a nurse solicitor with the ANF and an Adelaide law firm, Ms Dabars has already assisted many members with a variety of professional and industrial issues. "It is my vision that we continue to achieve professional and industrial outcomes worthy of our profession."

In acting to achieve this vision, Ms Dabars said the ANF SA Branch is currently negotiating changes to South Australia's Nurses and Midwives Bill in order to protect and advance the profession in all sectors. She also plans to work for the implementation of professional recognition and pay equity for clinical-focused practitioners. 'I am committed to working with our members in creating a bright future for our profession," she said.
