New APA--The Engineered Wood Association publications: now available online and in print.
Diaphragms and Shear Walls an APA design and construction guide,
includes 12 new design examples based on provisions in the 2003
International Building Code. Among the examples in this 32-page
publication are perforated shear walls, diaphragms for wind and seismic
loading, wood structural panel roofs and how to design a subdiaphragm.
This publication also offers suggestions for calculating deflection in
unblocked and non-uniform nailed diaphragms. Membership and Product
Directory includes numerous updates to APA member listings, including
sales contact information, products, mill names and mill numbers. Glulam
Design Properties and Layup Combinations covers principles such as
balanced versus unbalanced beam layups. (In balanced beams the grade of
laminations are symmetrical throughout, and with unbalanced beams the
highest quality laminations are used only on the bottom). This
publication also includes design stresses and grade requirements for APA
EWS trademarked glulam, and how to specify glulam by stress
classification and end-use combinations. Corrosion-Resistant Fasteners For Construction is an APA technical note with fastener recommendations
for exterior siding, permanent wood foundations and fire-retardant
treated plywood. These publications are available online, at APA's
web site: www.apawood.org/publications. To order printed copies, contact
APA by mail, email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or Fax: 253-565-7265. Mail:
