New 'Pink Bus service' launched in Mardan.

Summary: Service will be available for the women from morning till 10pm

ISLAMABAD: To ensure safe and hassle-free journey for women travellers, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Thursday has started the 'Pink bus service' in Mardan with all the modern features.

Initially it will have 10 newly buses painted in pink which would facilitate the women commuters on many routes.

A Trans Pehsawar board official said people are generally more concerned and overprotective for the safety of their loved ones especially women and children, adding, the pink bus service will offer a safe and comfortable experience for the female commuters.

Officials said the project would go a long way in empowering women, adding the Mardan KPK government would further expand the project in Abbottabad city which was already in final stages.

According to an official, 14 pink buses were donated by Japan to KP province.

He said this service will be available for the lady citizens from morning till 10pm.

Each bus has a capacity of 40 seats but passengers can also stand in the bus as they travel, official says.

Additional security and safety measures have also been provided within the bus, he added.

He said other facilities within the bus include first aid kits as well as special bus controls for safety measures.

A young student said: "I am happy that finally females can now travel in peace. They dont't have to face harassment and bullies any more."
