Network Peripherals Appoints 30-Year Industry Veteran Charles J. Hart to Board of Directors.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 1996--Network Peripherals Inc. (NPI) (NASDAQ: NPIX), a leader in high performance networking solutions for workgroups, today announced the appointment of Charles J. Hart to its Board of Directors.

A 30-year industry veteran, Hart was the founding member of the Board of Directors for InsWeb Corporation and has served as president and CEO of Semaphore Communications Corporation, Phaser Systems, Inc., and Etak, Inc.

"Mr. Hart's expertise in marketing and sales strategies, particularly in the global networking industry, will be extremely helpful in guiding Network Peripherals' future market direction," said Pauline Lo Alker, president and CEO of Network Peripherals Inc. For the past year, Hart has served as an active, founding member of the Board of Directors of InsWeb Corporation. InsWeb, a Internet technology company, launched the first vertically integrated marketplace for the insurance industry on the World Wide Web. Prior to founding InsWeb, Hart spent four years in the global networking security industry as president and CEO of Semaphore Communications Corporation.

Prior to Semaphore Communications, Hart was president and CEO of Phaser Systems, Inc., a developer of connectivity software which links local area networks to IBM mainframes. Hart has also held CEO positions with other innovative hardware and software companies, including LAN pioneer Nestar Systems, Inc. and Etak, Inc., the leader in geographic information systems.

Hart began his career in the computer industry with Control Data Corporation where he spent 13 years in management positions in Europe and the United States. Presently, he serves as an outside member of the Board of Directors for Xcert Software, Inc., of Vancouver, Canada.

Several years ago, Hart was named to the Micro Times 50, a roster of the fifty most influential people in the computer industry. His community involvement includes; past chairman of the Board of Directors for the San Jose Symphony, Director Emeritus of the Association for Corporate Growth, Council of Presidents for the Silicon Valley Arts Fund and the Safe Schools Foundation Board.
