JOB TITLE: Web and systems development manager.

WHERE DO YOU WORK?

At Bevan House in Great Park, at the headquarters of NHS North of Tyne.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB INVOLVE?

Managing the design, development and maintenance of web and software systems for Newcastle Primary Care Trust, North Tyneside PCT and Northumberland Care Trust.

This involves looking at new ways to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to help staff deliver the best service possible to the local community.

I manage a team of developers and together we work to improve the functionality and design of the websites to help make it as easy as possible for the communications team to provide accurate information to the public.

I'm also responsible for managing projects from conception, through testing and to delivery.

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT QUALITIES YOU NEED FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK?

Enthusiasm, time management skills and an eagerness to keep up to date with the latest technologies.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THIS PROFESSION?

Five years in this job and 12 years in this profession.

WHERE DID YOU TRAIN AND WHAT DID THAT TRAINING INVOLVE?

I studied electronic media at Wolverhampton University. This was mainly computer-generated 3D modelling and animation. The web was just beginning back then and it wasn't until I began working for the RAF that I became more involved in web development and design. I have since completed several courses including PGDip in computing, Java, Prince2 and Scrum.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS JOB?

I love the web, I love how it is constantly changing and improving. There is always something new on the horizon that we can learn and use to help our services and, ultimately, patients and the public.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT IT?

Working on new projects is always exciting and it's great to be able to see a real improvement when a project is implemented.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT IT?

Bug fixing.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FILM AND BOOK?

Film: Donnie Darko Book: A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

At the moment, sushi.

HOW WOULD YOU SPEND pounds 1M?

An Alfa Romeo 8c and the missus can have the rest.
