Prime Minister Rutte takes part in the commemoration of the capitulation of Japan on 15 August 1945 on Thursday afternoon 15 August 2019. The commemoration takes place at the Indian Monument in The Hague.

The capitulation of Japan brought the Second World War to an end in Southeast Asia 74 years ago, and with it the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Herdenking 15 August 1945 Foundation organizes this memorial annually for all civilian and military victims from the former Dutch East Indies that were occupied by Japan during the Second World War. In addition to the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense Bijleveld, State Secretary Blokhuis of Health, Welfare and Sport are also present.

During the memorial meeting, Prime Minister Rutte and State Secretary Blokhuis will lay a wreath at the Indian Monument on behalf of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom. Other authorities and representatives of the organizations involved also lay a wreath. Prior to this, nominations are given. The ceremony is concluded with a parade along the Indisch Monument.
