Netezza Positioned in Visionary Quadrant in 2006 Data Warehouse Database Management Systems Magic Quadrant; Data Warehouse Appliance Vendor Also Positioned in Data Warehouse DBMS Server Magic Quadrant.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Netezza, the global data warehouse appliance leader, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Visionary quadrant in the Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems, 2006 report(1). In addition, Netezza announced its positioning in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse DBMS Servers, 2006 report(2). These reports follow the July 2006 Gartner "Hype Cycle for Data Management," which projected data warehouse appliances to achieve mainstream market adoption within two to five years(3).

The Gartner Magic Quadrant positions a company based on its vision and ability to execute and is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. According to Gartner, "Visionaries have a clear vision of market direction and are focused on preparing for that, but they still can improve in terms of optimizing service delivery." In the 2006 Data Warehouse Database Management Systems Magic Quadrant report, Gartner states, "Although this is a mature market with the full attention of large vendors seeking to make inroads with scale and innovation, smaller entrants often deliver a more focused, innovative solution."

"We believe Gartner's positioning of Netezza in the visionaries quadrant is confirmation of the tremendous momentum we have been experiencing in the market and the truly disruptive impact of our data warehouse appliances," said Jit Saxena, CEO and co-founder of Netezza. "With more than 70 customers around the world and a growing list of partners, integrators and resellers, we are confident that we will continue to demonstrate our ability to deliver data warehouse appliances that are faster, easier to use and more cost-effective than any other data warehouse solution on the market."

The Netezza Performance Server(R) (NPS(R)) system is the market-leading data warehouse appliance built specifically to analyze terabytes of detailed data 10 to 100 times faster than existing data warehouse options, at half the cost. The NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query. Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS system to speed through processes that would occupy most data warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic increases in productivity across the organization.

Customers who have recognized the benefits of Netezza's approach include Ahold,, Cingular Wireless, CNET Networks, Debenhams, Epsilon, Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Ryder, Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, The Carphone Warehouse and The TJX Companies.
