NetConsult's INTERSHOP Online Virtual Storefront Software to be Bundled in All Silicon Graphics WebFORCE Systems; Bundle Will Offer Merchants Ability to Set-Up All-In-One E-Commerce Solution.
SGI, a world leader in Web authoring and scaleable Web servers, selected NetConsult as one of its three leading partnerships to utilize the high performance and unmatched transaction processing capabilities of SGI's WebFORCE servers. As part of SGI's turnkey electronic commerce solution, NetConsult's INTERSHOP Online is now available on the WebFORCE Commerce Sampler CD, which will be bundled in all WebFORCE Systems beginning Q1 of 1997.
NetConsult's INTERSHOP Online provides a breakthrough solution for retailers, catalogers and Web developers who want to set up an on-line shop easily, affordably and professionally. A merchant gets a complete store "shell," which is entirely customizable, as well as an integrated administrative "back-office," which incorporates all the business processes necessary to sell on-line. Instead of static, non-personalized HTML pages, INTERSHOP Online delivers fully dynamic content right out of a database, making it a perfect fit with Silicon Graphics' WebFORCE servers.
"Silicon Graphics' WebFORCE server line provides the ideal hardware platform to deliver INTERSHOP's dynamic content to thousands of users simultaneously," says Stephan Schambach, president and CEO of NetConsult Communications. "The blazing performance of WebFORCE servers and Silicon Graphics' total commitment to Internet leadership provides INTERSHOP Online with the ideal platform to make the promises of electronic-commerce come true."
INTERSHOP Online allows even novice business users to create branded, feature-rich on-line storefronts with a minimum of time and effort. Sold as an off-the-shelf package, INTERSHOP integrates best-of-breed technologies, including Sun Microsystems' Java, Sybase's SQL database server, CyberCash's secure Internet payment technology and the latest inventory tracking capabilities. In addition to virtual storefronts on the Internet, INTERSHOP Online offers merchants graphical inventory tracking control, statistical analysis features to make store operations easy and provides secure payment technology.
"As electronic commerce comes of age and more commerce products are introduced into the marketplace, it has been difficult for merchants to discern which applications will best suit their electronic commerce needs," said Kai-Fu Lee, vice president and general manager, Web Products Division for Silicon Graphics. "We are offering the easy-to-use WebFORCE Commerce Sampler CD, which is a set of low-cost, turnkey solutions that leverage the superior performance and transaction processing capabilities of our WebFORCE servers. NetConsult's INTERSHOP Online is one of the three leading-edge vendors we selected to provide our customers with compelling storefront solutions that can get businesses on the Internet quickly, easily and cost efficiently."
The suggested retail price for INTERSHOP Online is $4,999 for Windows NT and $7,999 for UNIX systems. Users can order INTERSHOP Online through NetConsult's value-added resellers: Central Technologies of Moorpark, Calif.; Libi Industries of Little Neck, N.Y.; Patel Communications of San Jose, Calif.; or Computer Future, Inc. of Greenwood, Ind. National distributors are Merisel and Access Graphics. Customers also can order by calling NetConsult at 800-736-5197.
An evaluation of INTERSHOP Online is available for 30 days. The low-cost, turnkey electronic commerce solution bundled on the WebFORCE commerce Sampler CD is included for free with all WebFORCE commerce-enabled WebFORCE O2 and Origin 200 systems and are also available from Silicon Graphics at 800/800-7441.
Running INTERSHOP Online on Windows NT systems such as Intel Pentium or DEC Alpha-based computers, or UNIX, SOLARIS, HP-UX, workstations or servers requires at least 64MB RAM and 300MB hard disk space. INTERSHOP Online also requires a Web server, e.g. the Netscape Commerce Server or Microsoft's Internet Information Server, and comes bundled with a Web server that the user can try for 60 days with the option to buy. Consumer operation steps and store management can be carried out with Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator, Microsoft's Internet Explorer or any HTML3 browser. In the event of workload overcapacity, the database server and Web server can be installed on separate computers. Both Windows NT and UNIX versions include the INTERSHOP Online server kernel, a high-quality relational client-server database system (Sybase SQL Server 11), CyberCash's secure Internet payment services, and the necessary administration tools and documentation. INTERSHOP Online is also available in a German-language version, with a French version to follow.
