Animal safety company Neogen (NasdaqGS:NEOG) said on Thursday that it has signed a strategic agreement to market its Igenity Dairy Heifer Programme through Merck Animal Health.

According to Neogen, the Igenity Dairy Heifer Programme consists of genomic tests that offer commercial dairy producers essential information on the genetic potential of replacement dairy heifers. The genomic tests can be performed soon after a calf is born for breeding and heifer selection.

Neogen's genomic tests include animal's score on health traits, net merit, pregnancy rate, productive life and somatic cell score as well as yield traits, animal's milk in fat pounds, fat percentage, protein pounds and protein percentage. The test contains information on key genetic markers needed for the USDA-AIPL genomic evaluation.

Under the agreement, Merck Animal Health will market Neogen's Igenity-Prime, the original test available to determine the genetic merit of a commercial dairy heifer as well as the Igenity-Select, an excellent decision-making tool for commercial dairies that features nearly 7,000 genetic markers for disease and performance traits.
