Nebraska.

Nebraskans for the Good Life, a coalition of groups representing Nebraska teachers, firefighters, government workers, librarians and others, is trying to stop a proposed state spending cap before it is imposed. Nebraska is one of at least eight states nationwide where voters are being asked to consider ballot proposals to limit state spending. The Nebraska State Education Association, the state teachers' union, took the lead in defeating a similar proposal that appeared on the ballot in 1998. This time, the NSEA and other opponents have organized early in hopes they can block the petition before the required number of signatures are collected.
