Navy rowers notch golden double; Lake Buhi scores.

PHILIPPINE Navy scored a near sweep of the First Mayor Alfredo Lim Dragonboat Championships of the Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation (PCKF) on Sunday on Manila Bay off Roxas Boulevard in Manila. Navy ruled the women's 10-seater 250-meter final with a time of one minute and 19.61 seconds, 1.71 seconds faster than PDRT-A (1:21.32). The multititled Navy team also stamped its class in the 20-seater mixed 250-meter final, clocking 2:11.21 to beat Manila Wave Thunder (2:13.97), PDRT (2:14.81) and Laguna Rapids A (2:15.11) Lake Buhi prevented a Navy sweep by winning the men's 20-seater 250-meter final in 1:04.84. Lake Buhi Sinarapan (1:05.94) finished second and Navy (1:10.08) was third.

Lim and PCKF secretary general Jonne Go, a newly-elected director of the Philippine Olympic Committee, led the dragon eye-dotting ceremony that ushered in the event that attracted more than 500 paddlers from 19 teams--two of which were from Bicol and another two from Laguna. The first partnership between the city of Manila and the PCKF and was supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.
