NattoPharma Introduces MenaQ7 Full Spectrum Vitamin K2: First full-spectrum vitamin K2 provides menaquinones 6, 7, 8, and 9.

NattoPharma has debuted MenaQ7 Full Spectrum K2. This latest innovation is the result of a proprietary technological breakthrough, creating a vitamin K2 that provides menaquinones (MK) 6, 7, 8, and 9, a range of isomers vital for cardiovascular health.

"NattoPharma has driven the creation of the vitamin K2 market, sponsoring the important research validating the importance of K2 for human health, and this work has shaped the MenaQ7 brand," said NattoPharma Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hogne Vik. "The epidemiological studies that led us to our ground-breaking human clinical research used fermented cheese as the source of vitamin K2, which led us to create MenaQ7 Full Spectrum."

According to researchers closely linked to these epidemiological studies: "Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an unequivocal role in the activation of Gla-proteins. Although all K-vitamins have the same function, they differ in bioavailability and bioactivity. The Rotterdam and Prospect studies have shown that food-derived vitamin K (such as from cheeses) improves long-term cardiovascular health outcomes because it more specifically delivers the long-chain menaquinones MK-6, 7, 8, and 9."

"While fermented cheeses are the best dietary source of menaquinones in the West, most will not be able to consume enough to obtain optimal amounts of vitamin K2, nor is cheese a practical source for extracting the menaquinones," added Dr. Vik. "To that end, NattoPharma has once again broken the mold and offers to the market a raw material that delivers the range of menaquinones found in foods."

The first and only vitamin K2 to deliver a gamut of menaquinone isomers, MenaQ7 Full Spectrum is naturally fermented using chickpea protein, offering an all-trans vitamin K2 that is free from gluten, soy and all known allergens, and is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. MenaQ7 Full Spectrum provides the vital menaquinone isomers MK-6, 7, 8, and 9 for optimal and maximal delivery of vitamin K2 with respect to absorption, half-life and biological activity.

AlaskOmega Launches New DHA Omega-3 Concentrates

Organic Technologies has added two new DHA omega-3 concentrates to its line of MSC-certified AlaskOmega fish oils and concentrates--a high DHA concentrate, and a medium strength DHA (non-tuna) tuna oil alternative. AlaskOmega's high DHA concentrate offers a minimum 460 mg/g DHA, 100 mg/g EPA in triglyceride (TG) form (TG100460). The tuna oil alternative is made from wild Alaska Pollock and provides the same EPA/DHA content typically found in tuna oil (minimum 50 mg/g EPA, 250 mg/g DHA in TG form).

Both DHA oils are MSC-certified and well suited for formulators looking for a fully sustainable DHA oil source that is low in oxidation (TOTOX max of 5), and offers excellent sensory characteristics. To assure AlaskOmega oils have optimal taste and smell, AlaskOmega analyzes the sensory of all its TG oils through a certified in-house organoleptic panel. Evonik Launches High Concentration Omega-3 Lysine Complex

Evonik has debuted AvailOm, a high-concentration omega-3 lysine complex that exhibits excellent bioavailability and stability, according to the company. As the highest load omega-3 powder with a minimum of 45% EPA and DHA by weight, it is designed to reduce the number of daily dosage forms.

"With AvailOm, EPA and DHA are absorbed as free fatty acids; there is no need for enzymatic conversion. The bioavailability of our product is therefore three to five times higher than with traditional fish oil capsules containing liquid omega-3 ethyl esters," said Dr. Ludger Eilers, responsible for Advanced Food Ingredients within Evonik's Health Care Business Line.

AvailOm powder can be efficiently pressed into compact tablets that are small and easy to swallow. When combined with one of Evonik's EUDRAGUARD polymer coatings, it will also prevent fishy reflux, the company said.

The fish oil raw material used to create the high-quality omega-3 lysine complex is sourced from carefully selected suppliers. AvailOm is manufactured in Europe to high quality standards. The powder has proved to be extremely stable and easy to process in all tests, the company said.

In addition to being cleared for sale in the U.S. (both NDI and GRAS), Evonik is pursuing registration in Europe and other markets. It is suitable as a standalone omega-3 tablet or capsule, or in combination with other ingredients, such as vitamins.

Study Demonstrates Benefits of Pycnogenol for Osteoarthritis Patients

According to the CDC, osteoarthritis is the most common joint disorder in the U.S., affecting more than 30 million Americans. A new peer-reviewed study published in the MDPI Journal of Nutrients shows that the polyphenols found in the French maritime pine park extract, Pycnogenol, are absorbed directly into joints, supporting the vast catalog of research on Pycnogenol for osteoarthritis symptom relief.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative joint disease that can significantly limit joint mobility and cause discomfort for the individual, and in severe cases, can warrant the need for invasive surgeries such as knee arthroplasty, a procedure for total knee replacement.

Decades of research has shown that the antioxidant Pycnogenol can reduce inflammation in patients experiencing osteoarthritis symptoms. The new study is the first to measure the polyphenol distribution of Pycnogenol in joint synovial fluid.

"This is the first evidence that polyphenols distribute into the synovial fluid of patients with osteoarthritis. That supports rationalizing the results of previous clinical efficacy studies that show reduced inflammation and improved comfort by supplementing with Pycnogenol," said natural health physician Dr. Fred Pescatore.

"Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants that have been associated with numerous benefits for human health. This is good news for patients suffering from osteoarthritis--and all of the patients in this study were preparing for knee arthroplasty," said Dr. Pescatore.

The double-blind study examined 33 individuals diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis scheduled for knee arthroplasty. Participants supplemented with 200 mg of Pycnogenol daily over the course of three weeks leading up to the scheduled surgeries. Synovial fluid samples were collected during surgery to detect and measure the presence of polyphenols.

Results from the synovial fluid samples showed that the polyphenols found in Pycnogenol, including taxifolin, ferulic acid, and catechin, were distributed throughout the synovial fluid in the Pycnogenol-tested group. Taxifolin and ferulic acid were not detected in control group serum samples.

This study supports previous research examining Pycnogenol's versatile benefits for joint health and proves that polyphenols are distributed into joints.

"Absorption by the body is key to realizing the benefits from natural supplements. This research shows that Pycnogenol is readily absorbed into the bloodstream and these nutrients can reach areas of need," said Dr. Pescatore.

Sabinsa Earns U.S. Patent for Composition of Lactospore with Cranberry Fibers

Sabinsa Corporation has been granted a U.S. patent on the company's shelf-stable probiotic LactoSpore in combination with cranberry seed fibers.

The patent (#9717766) discloses a method of increasing the viable colony count of Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 in a symbiotic composition containing natural plant fibers from Vaccinium oxycoccos (cranberry). The cranberry fibers in this composition were observed to increase the viable count of Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856.

This combination product is sold under the name LactoCran, with the cranberry seed fiber components supplied by Fruit d'Or Nutraceuticals. LactoCran provides support for healthy gut and digestive health. The non-lactose, diary-free, non-GMO combination works well in sports nutrition supplements as it contains a composition of 16 essential amino acids and eight branched chain amino acids.

This patent, along with the previously granted patent for the management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, is expected to boost LactoSpore's popularity and market value, the company said.

LactoSpore is a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) probiotic containing Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 which is lactose-free and non-GMO. This probiotic is room temperature stable and does not require refrigeration, ensuring a long product shelf life. Because of its ability to withstand high heat, LactoSpore has been included in functional baked goods.
