Ed. by Dan Atcheson.

Atcheson says that computer programs, as fancy as they are getting these days, should augment rather than replace observation at the site and hands-on experience when estimating the cost of a project that entails moving a bunch of dirt or rock with big machines. So he combines charts derived from surveys and other sources, computation software on the accompanying disk, and explanation on what to look for and how to measure in such cases as contour maps, cut and fill operations, soil swell and shrinkage, basement excavation, excavating equipment, loaders, tractors and bulldozers, soil compaction, paving, and rock blasting and ripping. Among the charts are cost differentials for zip codes across the US. Purchasers of the book can get monthly price updates from the website during 2010.
