Board of directors of National Space Society has announced it has elected Karlton Johnson (Colonel -- United States Air Force, Retired) as the Chairman of the society's Board of Governors, the organization said.

He will also lead the Governors Council, a project-oriented subset of the Board of Governors that was formed in 2016.

Johnson has served on the Board of Governors since 2016. He brings 31 years of senior leader subject matter experience in strategic leadership, space operational support, and organizational excellence to the society. In addition to serving as the spokesperson for the Board of Governors to the Board of Directors, he will lead initiatives to strengthen the Board's effectiveness and performance in support of the society's strategic goals.

Along with his military service, Johnson has served in the private sector continuing to deliver excellence. He held the position of Vice President, Business Development, at Alcoa Defense, in Washington, DC where he led all business development efforts for the air, space and combat support market segments of the company.

The National Space Society is an American international nonprofit 501 educational and scientific organization specializing in space advocacy. It is a member of the Independent Charities of America and an annual participant in the Combined Federal Campaign.
