National Investor Relations Institute President and CEO to Speak on Disclosure Best Practices.

SAN DIEGO, Oct 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis J. Thompson, president and CEO of The National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), will speak on "Walking the Reg FD Tightrope" Tuesday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Marriott Del Mar, 11966 El Camino Real. Mr. Thompson's appearance is sponsored by the San Diego chapter of NIRI.

Arguments are still raging in boardrooms of public companies even four years after the Securities and Exchange Commission implemented new disclosure requirements. Thompson will discuss safeguards companies can deploy, along with a number of best practices that can be used for a company's overall communications program.

Thompson's presentation will cover: information flow between issuers and analysts/investors; analyst conduct; corporate communications and access to management; reviewing sell-side analyst reports, and issuer-paid research. In addition, he will review several recent cases of alleged Reg FD violations and hold an interactive discussion in an effort to answer those burning questions on everyone's mind.

Mr. Thompson is the author of NIRI's Standards and Guidance for Disclosure and Standards of Practice for Investor Relations. He is a highly regarded speaker and frequently quoted media spokesperson on investor relations issues. Mr. Thompson has served in advisory capacities to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market. Mr. Thompson was awarded the lifetime achievement award in investor relations by Investor Relations Magazine and Barron's and is the recipient of the Investment Education Institute Distinguished Service Award in investment education. Prior to joining NIRI in 1982, Mr. Thompson was Assistant White House Press Secretary to President Gerald R. Ford and held a variety of key public affairs positions for the U.S. Command in Vietnam and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
